Merry Christmas 2015!

Merry Christmas to all our family and friends!!
This is the first Christmas in 32 years that this greeting is
from just Tim and I!!
We are real empty nesters now!!
For my 60th birthday this year, the kids were all in town,
so they hired a photographer to take 'real' family photos!
All of us getting together is harder and harder...
So it's wonderful to have such great shots of everyone!
Just us and our 4 "all grown up" kids!
(Rachel, Beka, Tim, Sandy, Deborah and James)
Tim and I with all the family:
The Nelson's, Beka and James, and the McInturff's!
A cute shot with the 5 BIG grandkids in front!!
Our whole family of 15!
We're grandparents to 7 special people!!!!
Thankful and blessed!
It has been one of the hardest years for us...
following entries explain :)
But in the midst of the hard, there have been many,
many blessings!  We're thankful for the kindness
and faithfulness of our loving Savior in keeping
and providing for each one of us!!!

Wishing each of you many blessings this coming year!
You've invited to come visit us ... we have 3 empty bedrooms!
We'd love to see you all!
Much love,
Tim and Sandy

Birthdays, visits and moves!

Tim was surprised in July for his 63rd birthday by the whole gang!
Fun Party for Papa!
I turned 60 in September!  Crazy!  How did this happen?
James moved to NYC September 18th!
Excited to see what's ahead for him!

Gramma came to visit October 22-27!
I'm so impressed that my mom at 84 yrs old
was excited to make this trip by herself -
Including driving herself to the Detroit airport!
I want to be like her when I grow up!!!

A wonderful lunch out with just Deb and Rachel!
We spent hours together!!
Thankful for the dad's who watched all the
kids so we could actually talk!
Great Gramma with Deb's boys ...
Everett (3), Amos (1) and Owen (6)
They want Great G to come everyday!
Great Gramma with Rachel's kids ...
Adad (7), Emsley (5), Letty (1) and Caden (3)
They just loved their Great Gramma!!!
Saying goodbye at the airport ...
so glad mom opted for a wheelchair!
She deserved the ride after such a busy week,
before the big trip home!
Such a special time with my mom :)
I had a wonderful day out with Emsley for
her 5th birthday in November!  She shopped
and picked out her Elsa doll, we had lunch at
Ihop, rode the Carousel - Twice!,
and played at the park... all Emsley's choice
with Elsa joining us for the day!
Such fun!
For Adah's 7th Birthday, also in November, she picked out
her doll!  Then both of us, with the doll, rode the light rail
to the Sky Train into the Phoenix Airport, where we had
lunch, explored and rode the Sky Train over and over.
We then took the light rail to downtown Phoenix where we
got frozen yogurt and went the "free" Wells Fargo Museum!
Want a fun adventure together!
I just love my GREAT idea of spending
a day out alone with each grandkid (once they turn 4)!
I love getting to know each unique one!!!
I'm a blessed Grammie!!
I'm enjoying my new patio and hummingbirds!
This is my view from where I sit in the mornings or evenings!
So peaceful!

Beka and WICKED in town!!!

Beka has been in the touring cast of WICKED since 7/28/14
and the show was in Arizona from 8/26 - 10/4!!
Beka was able to stay at home for 6 weeks!
It was great for all of us to be together, the little we were able ...
she was performing 8 shows a week, as usual, so was a busy girl!!
The first two shows in Tempe she was on as Nessarose!
We played the lottery and won!!
It was our 1st time seeing her as Nessa and she was fabulous!
This is a great shot at the stage door afterwards!!

Beka was the hometown girl while she was here!
She had many interviews published in local papers, etc.
Here are a few:
Phoenix Stages
On September 2nd she had 3 interviews
for morning TV programs in town...
This is just a sample...I'm glad I recorded the TV,
as it wasn't available on-line! Bad recording, but fun to have!

While in Tempe, Beka got to go on as Glinda twice
and Nessarose 6 times!
James and I bought lottery seats for a last minute Glinda performance!
She knew ahead of time she would be Glinda on the 15th,
so many people were able to see her!
Over 50 friends and family were there!!
It was very exciting and crowded at the stage door!!!
Clay and Rachel were able to have a date night
to see Beka as Nessarose!

It's pretty exciting to have an Auntie in a Broadway show!
All the grandkids were thrilled with a backstage tour!

Deb and I played the lottery hoping to see Beka as Nessa...but
didn't win and it was a sold out show, so couldn't buy tickets!
I had been told I could sit in the pit with the orchestra any time,
so we texted Beka and 5 min before the show started, we
were escorted down!!  We couldn't see the show at all, but
we could hear it all and it was fascinating to watch the conductor and
Dan at the keyboard!  Thankful for this treat!!
Watch and listen to a little clip :)

Tim, Deb and I bought tickets to closing night
and got to see Beka in the ensemble!!
It was a wonderful evening but sad to see the show and Beka leave :(
Hard to believe all of this actually happened!
Thankful for a great 6 weeks!!!
Pics!  More Fall 2015 pics here!

August 2015 Fun!

Owen's 6th birthday was August 6th.  I had so much fun
spending a day out with him!!
We had lunch at In-N-Out ... his choice :)
Owen loves watching the mechanics of elevators!
We watched for hours!
This is what he picked out for his Birthday gift!
He had it put together by the time I got home :)
I sure love this guy and love having time
alone with him!!!
We all went to the Aquarium at the Mills Mall!
What a fun day... a homeschool class and then
seeing all the amazing sea creatures!
Sister Carrie and friend Gary came to visit!  It was short and sweet but
they got to visit the Nelson's and the McInturff's!
Special Auntie!!!
This was a crazy project...
During August and September - probably the hottest
months of the year, James and I decided to tear down
the 2 ft wall surrounding the back patio that was falling apart!!!
Then scraped, cleaned, leveled concrete, bought 400 sq ft of
slate tile and worked like crazy - in the heat!!!
I had never done this before...but figured it out!!
It isn't perfect by far but it's done and
IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!
I am sooo happy to spend many mornings and
evenings in this peaceful spot!!!
My friend calls it "Sandy's Sanctuary"!
I love to have friends come and join me!!!

California for Tom's 55th Birthday Party and more!!!

Finally I'm here catching up on the last few months...

On July 14th I flew into San Francisco and had to wait till the next day
to take the Amtrak bus to Tom's.
So I had fun taking BART over to Castro Valley
and stayed with the Dyers for a night!
So great to visit with old friends!
Had a great time with Gayle and Steve ...
and breakfast with Gayle and daughter Ruth
before leaving the next morning.
I took Amtrak from Hayward to Fortuna...
it turned out to be a 10 hour trip,
but actually a beautiful and relaxing ride up the 101!
Had a few days at Tom's before his party!
Time enough to do some food prep and party set up!
Such a great party with lots of friends, food and music!
So glad I could be there!
We did so many fun things...
Went on the Madaket Harbor Cruise with friends
and friend Hugh was the captain!
An evening campfire on the beach with friends!
A hike in the Redwoods on Tom's birthday!
An awesome cruise on the Eel River!
 Thursday Night at the Ivanhoe!
 Bill's going away party!
He's played here most every Thursday night for years!
Back to San Francisco for my flight home 12 days later!
Saw beautiful sights and met many friends!
So thankful to have been able to make this trip!!!

Traveling and Grieving...

I never would have thought these two would go together,
but for me they sure have!
Since January I've seen all 5 siblings, my mom
and some dear old friends!
Being with family and friends and having the
wonderful distraction of traveling is a healing thing!!!

I've been to Durham NC, Rock Hill SC,
Rockville MD, Baltimore MD, Washington DC,
Fremont OH, Cincinnati OH, Dayton OH,
South Bend IN, Chicago IL, El Paso TX,
Denver CO, Dillon CO, Sedona AZ and Ferndale, CA
... all in 6 months!
Thankful to have so many people in so many places,
Beka in the tour of WICKED
AND Southwest Travel Points!!!
What a blessing from the Lord!

I had a trip planned to meet Beka in Durham, NC.
We were planning 2+ weeks of finally getting her in order,
after a whirlwind first 5 months as part of the
Munchkinland Tour of WICKED.
I stayed with her in her hotel and had a car so we could shop
for good big luggage and organizational things
to help her life be a bit easier on the road!
While there I was able to drive a couple hours to visit
brother Joe and his family in Rock Hill, SC!
Hard to believe this was the first time at his home!
What a blessing to spend a couple days with him
and his amazing family!  It was great to see his
wife, Lisa ... it had been so long!  She's not a fan
of getting her picture taken :)  Also saw Joe's son,
Joe and his new townhouse ... very special!
Big smile from niece Emily and a great dinner out!
Joe finished his fire pit after I left...
but I was happy to be there as he was planning it!

Such a busy season it was from when my sister died,
Oct. 11th, 2014 through the end of the year.
There was no time to actually feel and process the grief.
Then while home from the end of January until the end of April
EVERYTHING HIT HARD!
I spent many hours reading, praying, crying, writing, talking,
sitting and just processing the loss of my sister ...
some things can NOT be hurried.
Not sure if I'll actually ever get to an end of this grief,
but traveling, being with family and
having a few quiet months to myself have been just wonderful!

Beka was scheduled to go on as Glinda 4 times at the end of April
in Baltimore.  My sister Carrie lives nearby in Rockville, MD
so we got tickets to see Beka!  Carrie and her 2 boys, a few friends,
and I had great seats to see her as Glinda!
Before the show all together!
Carrie and her wonderful boys!
Touring Washington, DC!  ... It was Cold!!!
What a great time I had with my little sister...almost a week together!
This was the first time I'd ever been to her home...
and actually the first time we had EVER been alone together!!!
There are 15 years between us!
It was such a bonding and healing time for both of us!!!
We got just a bit goofy :)
SUCH  a blessing to be with her and her boys in their world!

Then I flew to Dayton, WICKED's next city!
Mom picked me up at Dayton airport, and I was able to be at
Mom's in Fremont for a few days...
helping with chores and enjoying being together!  Such a blessing!
We then drove to Columbus to pick up brother Tom,
before heading to brother Steve's in Cincinnati!
Sister Lisa and niece Abby joined us there!
We had a wonderful family time!
Had a great Kentucky Derby party,
complete with Mint Julips and Derby hats!!!
Eight of us went to see WICKED in Dayton!
Such great times to be together!
Then I went home with Lisa to South Bend!
I hadn't been to her home in over 10 years!!!
So great to see where she lives and experience her world!
She showed me her stomping grounds...Notre Dame campus, her work,
South Bend hot spots, Michigan wine country and Lake Michigan!
Then we took a train ride into Chicago
where she had a hotel all ready for us!
We spent a few days running around Chicago, seeing all the sights...
won the lottery to see The Book of Mormon!
We put 10 miles a day on our walking feet and even took
a 3 hour bike tour to see historic Chicago!
We walked to where Peter works and had an awesome Sushi dinner.
Then got to have breakfast together before I had to leave!
What a wonderful, healing time to be with my sister!
I barely got home from that trip and Beka flew home for 2 nights.
Then Tim and I drove Beka to her next city, El Paso!
We spent a couple nights in an awesome hotel next to the theater.
Tim finally got to see Beka in WICKED and meet some cast mates!
It was great to spend some time with our girl and help her out a bit!
Then I was home just over a week, again, before flying to Denver
- Beka's next city!
The plan was to meet my 2 high school buddies who live there,
see WICKED, and celebrate all of us turning 60 this year!!!
WOW!!!  What a trip!
With Connie and MaryPat!!

So far this year alone, I've seen WICKED 7 times in 5 different cities
 - plus 5 times in Toronto in November!!!
So only 12 times!
I mean look how many I've missed ... over 10 months at 8 shows a week??
I've missed over 300!!!!  I actually won the lottery for many of these!
Look at us!!!
Three friends from high school turning 60 within 3 months of each other!
So much in common and so much connection after 42 years!
We hiked and biked for miles and miles near beautiful Dillon, CO!!
So very refreshing and such a part of my healing process!
Thankful for these 2 gals!!!
Colorado views!
Time to leave this beautiful place :(

So then home for 2 weeks before Tim and I were able
to get away TOGETHER for 4 wonderful days in Sedona, AZ!!!
A much needed break for with my dear hubby!
Beautiful Arizona!
In Sedona ... waiting for the sunset!
So worth it!!!
 Lovely hikes!

Next stop ... Ferndale, CA!!!
I just made plans to be at brother Tom's
55th Birthday Celebration!
I'll be away July 14-26th!!
Then maybe home for a while???
After writing about all of this I'm wondering why I'm not
completely exhausted!  But all this traveling, visiting
and re-connecting with dear family and friends has
been just what I needed!!!
Feeling grateful!!!

(I keep this blog basically just to log what happens in life!
If anyone actually comes here, just know it's basically
for me - to help me remember ...
I realize it isn't exactly exciting!!)
